"How, uh, noble." This self-sacrificing, nobody-get-hurt attitude was cloying, like a thick scent that encompassed the entire house. He was just now starting to realize that that was what was making the house feel so... unhealthy for him. "But, sugar-" Ahah, that one would work, "Life is full of people getting hurt. There's nothing you really can do about it."
